This November, the Mount Calvary Christian School National Honor Society (NHS) decided to raise funds for Asheville Christian Academy and Tri-County Christian School who were both significantly impacted by the recent hurricanes.
NHS President Jason Becker shared about the group’s idea to bless these two schools:
“Throughout our whole planning process, my vision was to include as much of the school student population as possible. Including both elementary and secondary grade levels was a crucial factor in allowing us to surpass our fundraising goals. Additionally, we felt it was crucial that students approach this fundraiser with a mindset of generosity, recognizing that as believers, we must follow Jesus’ instruction to offer provisions to those in need. Given the situations of both the schools we reached out to, we knew that we could make a difference in the lives of students and staff schools just like ours.“
NHS member Maggie Weigel has a heart for Asheville Christian as her mother and aunt attended the school, and her grandmother was employed there. Growing up, Maggie recalls stories about Asheville being told in her home. When thinking about the devastation, she said, “I don’t think we will ever understand the impact this hurricane has had on so many people in Asheville and other places in North Carolina. Due to the hurricane, the entire school was ruined, leaving them to continue learning in a church.”
K-12th grade students at MCCS were invited to give toward the fundraiser and were given collection bins for their classrooms. Jason Becker spoke about generosity and stewardship in a chapel service, and Senior Kaden Feucht helped coordinate and run a bake sale open to middle school and high students during their lunch periods.
At the end of the fundraiser, NHS was thrilled to see that the amount raised exceeded their goal with nearly $3,700 given by students at both campuses!
Junior Maggie Weigel shared, “The opportunity to bless our brothers and sisters and to see our school come together for this fundraiser is something to rejoice and thank the Lord for. Personally, I found so much joy in the elementary students who made cards and the middle/high students who gave money not only for the baked goods but also in support of this project. I’m so grateful that God gave me the opportunity to be a part of this school that came together in order to glorify God and support our fellow family in Christ.”
