Malachi Shank was recognized as the Student of the Month for May. Congratulations, Malachi! We enjoyed sitting down and hearing a little bit about your journey at MCCS. Read his interview below.
What are your plans after graduation?
“After graduation, I plan to enter the work force or ministry in some capacity, and I plan to travel.”
What sports, clubs, or activities have you been involved in? Any awards or special recognitions?
“During my time here at Mount Calvary, I’ve been pretty involved in the theater program. I’ve been in about 10 productions here (plays and musicals). I was nominated several times for a Hershey Theatre Apollo Award, and that was pretty impactful during my time here.“
What special opportunities has MCCS given you?
“Over the last four years, praise team has been really impactful for me; it’s helped me grow in my love for music but also for worship ministry for a potential career choice of music production or ministry.”
How have the teachers at MCCS made an impact on your life?
“A couple teachers who have made an impact on me during my time here are my class advisors: Mrs. Risser and Mrs. Aument have done a fantastic job at investing in me and my classmates over the past four years. I’ve really appreciated them and their wisdom throughout my time here.”
What has God been teaching you lately?
“Recently, one thing the Lord has been teaching me is that it’s more about the journey than the destination. I’m someone who likes to be there and be perfect and have everything done, but the Lord has been teaching me to take it slowly and enjoy the journey.”
Do you have any advice for younger students?
“If I had one piece of advice to give to people I would say it’s not about being perfect; you don’t have to be perfect. Instead, take your time. Find what you’re passionate about and pursue that. Be intentional.”
What are some of your favorite high school memories?
“One of my favorite memories has been with the praise team. I remember during my 10th grade year, the praise team retreat really sticks out to me. I got to make a lot of really good friends there who have lasted throughout my high school career. It was a great time to get to know people and work with people in the praise team community.”
How has Mount Calvary helped prepare you for your future?
“I want to say a huge thank you to Mount Calvary and the leadership here for mentoring me. Also, to my parents and my friends who have been here for me since day one.”
