Jordan DeGroft Named April Student of the Month

Jordan DeGroft was recognized as the Student of the Month for April. Congratulations, Jordan! We enjoyed sitting down and hearing a little bit about your journey at MCCS. Read his interview below.

What are your plans after graduation?

“After graduation, I plan on attending Anderson University in South Carolina to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.”

What sports, clubs, or activities have you been involved in? Any awards or special recognitions?

“While I’ve been at Mount Calvary, I’ve been in nine productions here, along with playing soccer for two years in high school and then two years in middle school, along with playing basketball in middle school as well. I was also just nominated for an Apollo Award for Singin’ in the Rain.“

How have the teachers at MCCS made an impact on your life?

“The teachers at Mount Calvary have made a very big impact on me, in my spiritual life and as a person. You can tell that they’re very, very committed and that they love their students and have a very strong faith. They’re very easy to look up to and help guide me.”

What has God been teaching you lately?

“As I went into my senior year and as it progressed and I’ve started to look at colleges for the rest of my life…God has really been telling me and showing me that I just need to trust him. Because if I don’t trust Him, I’m going to have so much anxiety. I can’t control anything; I can’t do it on my own. I just need to trust Him that He’s going to have good plans for me. I can’t do it, but He can. My dreams may not be realistic on earth, but they’re realistic in Heaven, and I can do whatever He wants me to do.”

Do you have any advice for younger students?

“If I were to give advice to the younger generation, or even people my age, it would be to just present in the moment. Take it in. Don’t look forward to the future. Don’t look backwards to the past. Be in the moment, and try to find joy in it.

What are some of your favorite high school memories?

“I’ve been at Mount Calvary since K5, and I’ve made lots of memories here – lots of great ones. I think two that were really great ones would be: one, when I was in 8th grade, and we wished this guy happy birthday over the loudspeaker even though it wasn’t his birthday, and that was really funny to us in 8th grade.

This year, being in Singin’ in the Rain and playing a lead role with my best friend, Malachi – that was just amazing. It was such a great experience.”

How has Mount Calvary helped prepare you for your future?

“Some ways Mount Calvary has helped prepare me for my future have been the Bible classes; they’ve been really good and have taught me a lot. That’s definitely going to help me going out into the world to have a strong, biblical foundation.

And then with musical theater, the plays and musicals and the theater program have really helped my love for music and theater and all that.“
