Bible Quiz Team to Compete This Weekend

By: Dr. Daniel Sheard

One of the unknown clubs of the MCCS secondary program is the Bible Quiz Team. We want to highlight a little of what this unique competitive team is all about.  Our coaches Julie Owlett and April Miller had this to say.

This Saturday (Feb. 15) our Bible Quiz Team has the opportunity to participate in a tournament with the World Bible Quiz Association.   https://www.wbqa.org/  We are taking some of our top players to compete against multiple teams in the hopes of bringing home a trophy. The tournament will take place locally at Hershey Evangelical Free Church.

This is our third year having a Bible Quiz Team at MCCS .  Middle school and high school students can be a part of this club.  We meet on Wednesdays from 2:40pm-4pm to practice and study God’s Word.  The World Bible Quiz Association provides the materials, questions and they determine the book(s) of the Bible around which the competitions will take place.

This year our 12 student competitors are memorizing the books of Hebrews and 1 Peter & 2 Peter.  On average quizzers memorize 200+ verses from September through March.  We have quiz meets once a month on Sundays from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at various churches around Lancaster and Dauphin Counties.  This Saturday we are excited to see if we can place in the top 5!

This year we will be having a Jr. Bible Quiz Team go to a one day tournament on March 14th.  We have five 4th and 5th graders preparing for that tournament.  They are working to memorize the entire book of 1 Peter.  This is a good opportunity for them to see what quizzing is like and if they’d like to join the Bible Quiz Team when they get to middle school.

Bible quizzing is a fun and competitive way to study God’s Word.  I know no matter what, whether we win or lose, our students will keep the verses they have studied in their hearts for the rest of their lives and that is the most important part of Bible quizzing.
